Truths we Hold

We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Holy Bible and that it is absolute truth, without admixture and inerrant in the original autographs, and it is the sole and sufficient standard of faith and practice.

We believe in the one true and living God, creator of heaven and earth, infinite in being and perfection, invisible, immutable, eternal and sovereign over all His creation, worthy of all worship, obedience and devotion, and revealed to us in the Bible as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, these three being equal in essence, in attributes and eternal being, yet there being but one God.

We believe in Jesus Christ, God incarnate through the virgin birth, His eternal pre-existence with the Father, His essential deity, His sinless life, His substitutionary death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven, His present mediatorial High Priestly office, His personal, visible and premillennial return to the earth and His ultimate kingdom and reign.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, equal with the Father and the Son, and His ministry as the representative of Christ on earth. By Him those who believe the gospel are regenerated, indwelt, nourished in the Word of God, gifted for service, baptized into the body of Christ which is the church of the living God and that He teaches, guides and empowers every believer, continuing to sanctify them and to develop in them the image and likeness of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that Satan is a created, personal being, the instigator of sin, that he is the declared enemy of God and man, and that he shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire.

We believe that all men by natural generation possess the fallen nature of Adam and are sinners by nature and deeds, totally depraved and unable to please God or stand in His holy presence; and that if they remain unrepentant and unbelieving, they shall be eternally separated from God in everlasting conscious suffering.

God would have all men come to repentance, and those who come to knowledge of the truth and trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ according to the gospel are forgiven all sin and are born anew by the Holy Spirit, and enter into eternal life as children of God with all the mercies and blessings, privileges and responsibilities accorded them in the Holy Bible.

We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture.

We believe that the local church is composed of born again people who have been immersed upon a credible confession of faith, meet in some local place in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, have elders and deacons, and observe the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper.

We believe that all who are saved and accepted in Christ will not fall from that position in the grace of God but shall be sustained by the immutability of divine election, the abiding ministry of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Jesus Christ whereby, continuing in the love of God, they shall persevere to the end and remain eternally saved.

We further believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the unrepentant to everlasting judgment and the repentant to everlasting life in God's presence.

Here at Foothills:

Foothills is a community of people pointing to Jesus and declaring His saving work for us on the cross.  We delight in worship, bring Him glory as He changes us, and serve each other out of gratitude for His life-saving work. We desire to be His hands and feet in our community and wherever He calls us.
People often ask, “But what kind of church is this?” Foothills is an elder-led, non-denominational church that began as a Baptist church over 100 years ago. We teach the Bible in an exegetical, or explanatory, manner and tend to focus our teaching on books of the Bible. We are conservative in our interpretation of the Bible.
A wide range of people and families make up our church in a rural community setting. We come from a diverse mix of religious and denominational backgrounds. We welcome everyone.
We continue to cultivate a missional heart and have a vision of “becoming a whole church for the broken world.”

Genus

Genus is a class of things with common characteristics. We used to be a Baptist church and we value those roots. Today, we are non-denominational and fit in a class of churches with the following characteristics:

Incarnational: The Church is the body of Christ. It is a mysterious truth with practical expressions through followers of Jesus. Collectively we house the Spirit of God in this world. The sum of the parts is greater than the whole, so 1+1+1+7. (Colossians 1:27, Ephesians 4:12, Galatians 4:19, 1 Corinthians 6:19; 12:12).

Missional: Mission is why the church exists. Mission exists because worship doesn't. As a missional community of Jesus-followers, we are committed to carrying out His work of reconciling man to God in His way – as a servant (Matthew 28:18-20).

Holistic: The whole gospel for the whole person for the whole world (Matthew 9:35). We live in a fragmented world, where people, families and communities have been torn to shreds. We think Jesus heals and forgives, builds and restores, gives life and brings hope. We even think He is the only hope for this world and that His presence in a life and a community changes everything. Whatever is broken, He can make whole.

Organic: Ministries and people are nurtured and grown from God-given burdens to bless, not assembled and produced to get people in the doors to conform. We are committed to growth and people, not programs and numbers (Luke 13:19).
