Today I took out the garbage. I know, insert gasp here.
It was full, stinky and just plain needed to be taken outside. So I did it. And somewhere in the back of my mind a thought crept in: “Hey! Why is Tyler not doing this?!” Now this was not something we had talked about in premarital counseling. This is not something we agreed on or signed a contract about. But somewhere in nearly 15 years of marriage it became an expectation of mine: Tyler takes out the garbage.
Following up from where I left you in last week’s blog, there is another component of what makes up the Whole Church. The Whole Church is sent by the Holy Spirit. Ladies, that means you and I! Let’s be honest here though, we are expecting the Holy Spirit to send someone (anyone!) besides us. Or we are at the other extreme and expect the Holy Spirit to ask us to do something of Billy Graham proportions.
And yes, God may be asking you to go to Mexico, Haiti or East Asia. He might be asking you to take a meal to the family that just had a baby. Or, He might just want you to take out the garbage for goodness' sake. Sisters, don’t downplay the role or the step the Holy Spirit is asking you to take. Each one of us can do things big or small. Our faithfulness in listening to the Holy Spirit and going wherever He sends us will create a community of women that can be a Whole Church to this city, this canyon and further.
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
Pause. Listen. Where is the Holy Spirit wanting to send you? Don’t assume that call is for someone else. May we all answer as Isaiah did!
