Spring is here. As I look in my yard, I can see trees and bushes starting to bud. One of the trees has this crazy branch growing lightning speed ahead of the others in the wrong direction. Definitely time for some spring pruning in my yard.
This morning I was having a conversation with my husband about leadership. He's such a gifted encourager (wink-wink). He said, "Leadership is all about being personally refined and pruned." "I am tired of being refined and pruned! This is painful and hard!" I replied. He ended with the words that have been stuck in my head all day, "Don't you want to grow?"... Oh, ouch, yes, no, but yes, yes, Lord I do.
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. (John 15:1-2)
One of the prayers we have been praying for our ladies' retreat is that we would have a readiness to be refined and pruned. Father, give us the strength to want this. Help our hearts to soften and prepare for you to speak into our lives. Lord, we want to bear fruit.
I look forward to retreating with many of you soon, and my hope is that together in Him we will bear much fruit in the coming months and years as we live in community with one another.
